Local Business Expert Says Retailers Need to Prepare for Holiday Rush

A local business experts says retailers are likely to be busier than they think this year.

Arroyo Grande, CA, United States - December 7, 2017 /PressCable/ —

Many local shop owners are wringing their hands this year as the general knowledge is that most people will do most of their Christmas shopping online, but one local business expert says they shouldn’t count themselves out of the picture just yet.

“Some recent studies are showing that not everyone is going to spend all of their holiday cash online,” says a spokesman from FindUsLocal.com, a local business directory that uses GEO technology to automatically match a visitor’s location with a customized home page that shows them only the results from their local area. “In fact, some of the findings are surprising.”

He says that the youngest generation, Generation Z, will spend about 35 percent of their Christmas cash in brick and mortar stores, while Generation X will spend 48 percent of their money in local shops. Baby Boomers will also spend 48 percent locally, while seniors will spend 33 percent of their cash in their local community.

Another recent survey shows that 71 percent of Millennials visit multiple local shops to find the best deal they can, and 76 percent of them first look online before buying, but then 66 percent of them end up buying from a local business.

“What all of this means,” says the spokesman, “Is that if your local business isn’t yet listed in a local business directory, you’re probably missing out on a lot of business, especially this time of year. The surveys indicate that of those people who look online to conduct research about a product, a good percent of them will end up making the purchase from a local store.”

Creating a local business listing is free, and most local business experts recommend that every local business owner have at least one.

Alaska man gets life in prison for Florida airport shooting

Aug 18, 2018

MIAMI — An Alaska man will spend the rest of his life in prison for the January 2017 Florida airport shooting that left five people dead and six wounded, a federal judge ordered Friday. U.S. District Judge Beth Bloom accepted a plea deal in which Esteban Santiago, 28, agreed to admit to the shooting if prosecutors would not seek the death penalty. Santiago pleaded guilty in May to 11 charges of causing death and violence at an international airport. Santiago, of Anchorage, Alaska, admitted he opened fire with a handgun in a baggage area at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport after...

Park, Salas share LPGA Tour lead in rainy Indy

Aug 18, 2018

INDIANAPOLIS — Sung Hyun Park relied on the same, steady style that has helped make her one of the LPGA Tour's top players. When her putts kept rolling in Friday, she was virtually unbeatable. Park shot a 9-under 63 for a share of the lead with Lizette Salas during the suspended second round of the Indy Women in Tech Championship. "The best round of the year," the South Korean player said through an interpreter. "My putting overall was what really helped." Salas, the first-round leader after a 62, had a 69 to match Park at 13 under at Brickyard Crossing....

US regulators target Facebook on discriminatory housing ads

Aug 18, 2018

NEW YORK — Federal regulators are alleging that Facebook's advertising tools allow landlords and real estate brokers to engage in housing discrimination. The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development said in an administrative complaint this week that Facebook violated the Fair Housing Act because its targeting systems allow advertisers to exclude certain audiences, such as families with young children or disabled people, from seeing housing ads. "When Facebook uses the vast amount of personal data it collects to help advertisers to discriminate, it's the same as slamming the door in someone's face," HUD Assistant Secretary Anna María Farias said...

Justice lawyers try to halt Trump financial records release

Aug 18, 2018

WASHINGTON — Justice Department lawyers asked a federal judge Friday to let them file a legal appeal that could, for now, keep President Donald Trump's critics from getting access to financial records related to his Washington, D.C., hotel. Trump has been fighting multiple lawsuits that argue that foreign representatives' spending money at the Trump International Hotel is a violation of the U.S. Constitution's emoluments clause, which bans federal officials from accepting benefits from foreign or state governments without congressional approval. U.S. District Judge Peter J. Messitte, who is based in Maryland, ruled last month that one of those lawsuits could...

Judge told to consider protections for Montana grayling fish

Aug 18, 2018

HELENA, Mont. — An appeals court on Friday told a judge to take another look at whether a Montana fish should be protected, saying that U.S. wildlife officials did not consider all environmental factors when they decided against designating the Arctic grayling as a threatened or endangered species. The three-judge panel of the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals reversed U.S. District Judge Sam Haddon's 2016 ruling that the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service's decision not to list the Arctic grayling as threatened or endangered was based on the best available science. Wildlife officials' conclusion that the grayling population was...
